PITT OHIO Transportation Group has announced its acquisition of Midwest less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier Sutton Transport, effective January 1.

“This move perfectly aligns with our strategy to enhance customer service by increasing shipment density within our service areas,” said Charles Hammel III, President of PITT OHIO and the PITT OHIO Transportation Group. “Sutton Transport’s stellar reputation, built by the dedication of the Sutton family, complements our mission to deliver top-notch, damage-free, and on-time services. This acquisition underscores our commitment to growth and innovation.”

In a press release, PITT OHIO highlighted the acquisition as a major milestone in its growth journey. Initially, Sutton Transport and Dohrn Transfer will operate independently. Over time, they will merge under the Dohrn LLC brand, enhancing service, safety, and customer experience while leveraging advanced technologies.

“After careful consideration, we determined PITT OHIO was the ideal choice to uphold the interests of our customers and employees,” said Cliff Sutton, President of Sutton Transport.

The integration will be phased to ensure a smooth transition for both customers and employees. The focus will remain on maintaining efficient, reliable, and damage-free deliveries with enhanced visibility tools.

“During the coming months, we’ll align our strengths to prepare for a fully integrated future,” said Robert Howard, President and COO of Dohrn Transfer. “Our commitment to transparency and exceptional service will guide us as we deliver more flexible, reliable, and efficient solutions. The Sutton family’s dedication and excellence align seamlessly with our values, and we’re excited to unite under the Dohrn LLC name.”

Following the acquisition, PITT OHIO Transportation Group—which includes PITT OHIO, Dohrn Transfer, Ross Express, and US Cargo—is projected to become the 12th largest LTL carrier in the U.S.

Heather Dohrn, Executive Vice President and CEO at Dohrn Transfer, emphasized the benefits of the transition. “Operating as two complementary brands ensures a seamless experience for our customers. With advanced tools to improve visibility and efficiency, we’ll continue to provide premier Midwestern service with a commitment to damage-free quality.”

The acquisition also reflects a broader expansion strategy, enhancing PITT OHIO’s ability to serve a wider customer base. SJ Consulting Group, Inc. facilitated the transaction.

“Our unified sales teams will provide a consistent and high-quality experience throughout this transition,” said Scott Bagley, Vice President of Sales at Sutton Transport. “Customers can rely on us as a trusted partner for their transportation needs.”

This acquisition positions PITT OHIO for greater flexibility, efficiency, and reliability, reinforcing its commitment to delivering industry-leading LTL services.
